Climate Change. Is it complicated or complex?

gs1932

What is the difference between handling complicated and complex problems?

Complicated Problems need Complicated Solutions,

Complex Problems need Simple Solutions.

One of the greatest challenges facing humanity today is climate change.

Climate change is natural; however, rapid climate change is not.

The Earth is a dynamic, living entity, constantly changing over time. It cools and warms naturally as it rotates on its axis, revolves around the sun, and dances through the galaxy. These cycles unfold slowly over thousands of years. But human activity has disrupted this delicate rhythm, accelerating climate change to a destructive pace.

The root cause of rapid climate change is the indiscriminate and irresponsible application of human ingenuity. In our quest for quick prosperity, we have extracted vast amounts of carbon from the soil in the form of wood, oil, gas and coal burnt them, and released an excess of gases mainly Carbon dioxide, Methane, etc into the atmosphere, harming our lives and destabilising the natural equilibrium.

This situation is complex and the challenges to fix the problems are daunting. Many of us are confused, feel intimidated and thus paralysed. In our hesitation, we often defer to governments, hoping they will solve the problem. But the truth is, governments cannot tackle this alone.

We are enamoured by modern technology and often look to it for solutions. Yet, sophisticated technology can create new sets of problems. Technology usually provides solutions that cost money, consume vast resources, and are vulnerable to exploitation by those seeking profit or power. Ironically, the answers to the complex climate crisis are often simple and within reach. This is where the principle of 'KISS'—Keep It Stupidly Simple, becomes essential.

The first step to solving the climate crisis is raising awareness. Every individual has to be made aware of the scale and urgency of climate change. This requires sharing information far and wide, fostering concern, and inspiring collective action. Solutions do not belong to governments, corporations, or a select few; they require the involvement of the entire global community.

Modern man has been around for about only 200,000 years on a planet that is 5 billion years old. Earth has demonstrated a system of balance and renewal.

We humans can learn from nature for solutions and mimic nature to restore ecological harmony.

Rapid climate change is an existential challenge for humanity.

To reverse adverse climate changes, we must restore carbon equilibrium. This means returning excess carbon from the atmosphere back to the soil where it belongs rather than allowing it to persist in the atmosphere, where it exacerbates global warming.

Nature provides the tools to achieve this—through reforestation, regenerative agriculture, and other biological processes. All this hinges on healthy soil. We have been focused on many factors mainly plants, but ignored the most fundamental one, healthy soil.

We have within our hands cost-effective, scalable, and inclusive solutions that empower every individual to make a difference and make soil healthy again.

The way forward is not to be intimidated by complexity but to embrace simplicity. By working with nature, we can address the climate crisis and ensure the survival of all species, including our own.

In future discussions, I will share with you practical solutions in greater detail. For now, we need to remember that the power to change the world lies in our hands. Together, we can restore balance to our planet.
